Hello Friends and Family!

I am looking forward to June 1st. Not just because it signals summer, but more importantly since it means I can ride my bike to help children. I will be joining over 2,000 riders in the 30th Annual TREK 100 Ride for Hope. This great Ride benefits the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.) which is a great charity dedicated to helping children battling cancer and blood disorders like aplastic anemia and sickle cell disease. The TREK 100 is the largest annual fundraiser in the 42 year history of the MACC Fund. It has helped raise $15.3 million in net proceeds since 1990. Trek Bicycle Corp. of Waterloo, WI is synonymous with excellence in cycling and the MACC Fund is synonymous with supporting excellence in childhood cancer and blood disorder research. Ironically both Trek and the MACC Fund started in 1976 and they have been linked to helping children for nearly three decades.

The TREK 100 gives riders like me a chance to “pedal for a purpose” to help make a difference in a child’s life. I am asking you to consider joining me by your heartfelt pledge.

The MACC Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation which supports research in Wisconsin in the MACC Fund Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, the MACC Fund Research Center of the Medical College of Wisconsin, the MACC Fund Childhood Cancer Research Wing at the University of Wisconsin’s Carbone Cancer Center and at Marshfield Clinic. This MACC Fund supported Wisconsin based research impacts the treatment of children throughout the state, the nation and the world.

The MACC Fund has the highest “4-Star Rating” by Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier charity evaluator. Only 25% of charities receive this prestigious ranking. This MACC Fund supported, Wisconsin based research, impacts the treatment and care of children throughout the state, the nation and even the world. Thanks to events like the TREK 100, the MACC Fund has been able to contribute over $65 million to research since 1976 playing an important role in helping to raise the overall cure rate for childhood cancer from 20% to 80% during this time. Yet kids can still relapse and have “late effect” issues which require more research.

Research holds the key to reaching the goal of 100% quality of life survival. Support from friends like you who are generous in considering this request can make a difference.
